Puglia Beaches – They’re the Best in Italy!
Puglia leads the field in The Telegraph’s recently published Top 10 Beach Resorts for 2016. The heel of the boot, also known as Apulia, comes first on the list. It is described as having ” some of the best beaches in mainland Italy.”
This comes as little surprise to us. With its pristine sands and clear waters, Puglia has 28 Blue Flag beaches and 3 blue flag marinas (2015). It’s also got 800 kilometres ( 500 miles) of shoreline and two seas (the Ionian and the Adriatic) which meet at the bottom of Puglia, so visitors are spoiled for choice.
Some of the most beautiful Puglia beaches, in our opinion, are very close to the luxury masseria villas we have available for rental. Beautiful Torre dell’Orso beach is just one example, a few minutes’ drive away.
Torre dell’Orso means Tower of the Bear and the beautiful beach takes its name from a partially ruined watchtower which overlooks it. Reached through a pine forest, it has one of the best beaches in Italy from where you can enjoy views of the crystal ocean and the captivating Due Sorelle. These are two stacks in the sea, which you can see in the photo. They are allegedly named after two local sisters who worked so hard they never had time to admire the stunning scenery!
